A Message from League Commissioner Justin Miller,
Hey, Upward Parents!
Our league has exploded with almost 200 kids and we couldn't be more excited!! However, this can create some challenges as we will do our best to navigate throughout the season. Evaluations start next week so here we go!   
Time to dust off that whistle!
We are so excited that we are able to provide three divisions this season (Kindergarden-1st, 2nd-3rd and 4th-6th). However, to fill 20 teams, we needed around 40 coaches. I begged, nagged, and cold-called that we should have enough coaches for the 4-6th grade division but we need more coaches for the K-1st grade division (head and assistant) and one more assistant coach for the 2-3rd grade division. I know some of you are still icing your arms from baseball and softball seasons but the kids really need your love and support. Upward makes it very easy to be a successful coach as you will receive a coach playbook and they have an amazing app for your phone plus an online resource page. To make it even easier, we will be practicing together where I will be coming up with a practice plan with drills and giving the practice devotions. And...did I mention that the coaches receive some really cool swag including a polo shirt and for the first time ever...an Upward HAT!! Please let me know by tomorrow as I need to organize the coaches' meeting which is this Sunday at 7 pm (more details in a separate email coming soon). If you want to help out in other ways, please reach out to me if you or someone you know can help with registration during the first few practices, giving the halftime devotions or helping us out by refereeing. First Evaluation (which is really a practice)
We decided to split up the first evaluation to make the process flow smoother. 4-6th grade will have evaluations on Tuesday, July 30th from 6-7:30 pm. K-3rd grade will be Thursday, August 1st from 6-7:30 pm. Everything throughout the season for flag football will be held at Butler Memorial Stadium. The address is 100 Memorial Drive, Butler, 16001. With so many kids, parking might be a little tight. Feel free to park around the park or below the field. Please check into the registration tent upon arrival so we can double check your contact information (especially the grade your child is entering in the fall as I noticed some mistakes), take any outstanding payments (cash or checks only and checks can be made out to North Main Street Church of God) and give your child their nametag. Your child will need a water bottle with their name on it, spikes (any spikes will do...football, soccer, baseball, etc.), and comfortable clothes. Mouthpieces are completely optional. Parents may sit on the main bleachers or any of the side bleachers but must stay off the field unless you are a coach
