Advent:  Peace

(Isaiah 9:7)

Yearly Theme:  “Peace is…”

Series Title:  “Eternal Peace”

December 12th, 2021

Something to think about:

Living in peace is the means by which contentment is achieved.  But a person cannot have true, long-lasting peace without Christ because He is the Prince of Peace.

As we continue our Advent Series this morning, we will be taking an intensive look at one verse from the Old Testament book of Isaiah chapter 9.  In this verse we will explore what peace is in regard to GOD’s Kingdom, and how that Kingdom of Peace will never end.  Let’s take a look…

Isaiah 9:7 (NLT),

 His government and its peace

will never end.

He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David

for all eternity.

The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies

will make this happen![1]

Here’s the key point this morning…

Key Point:  “When peace is gone, the Prince of Peace is just over the horizon.”

There are times in life where peace seems fleeting and difficult to conjure, but if we know the Prince of Peace, peace is not too far off.  Let’s break this verse down and see what we can learn about GOD’s Kingdom of Peace:

  • His  of  is forever.

Isaiah 9:7a (NLT), His government and its peace will never end.

  • His kingdom of peace is ruled with  and

Isaiah 9:7b (NLT), He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.

  • The  of  will make this happen.

Isaiah 9:7c (NLT), The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen.

Something to take home:

  1. S. Lewis wrote, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”

The great mystic and Catholic monk, Thomas Merton wrote, “We are not at peace with others because we are not at peace with ourselves, and we are not at peace with ourselves because we are not at peace with God.

So, we have these promises of GOD that remind us that He is with us, that He is for us, and that He will come through.  Because of this, we not only have reason for hope, but we have peace that passes all comprehension.  If we have the Prince of Peace (Jesus) as our Lord and Savior, then not only do we have no reason to fear anything, we have every reason for peace to dwell in our hearts.

No matter your circumstances, GOD desires for you to dwell with Him in His Kingdom of Peace.  If you’re not at peace, chances are the only thing holding you back… is you.

Key Point:  “When peace is gone, the Prince of Peace is just over the horizon.”
