Something to think about:
Key Point: “God’s people don’t need to fear His judgment because our hope is in the Lord.”
Amos was a simple farmer and herdsman who was called by God to deliver words of judgment to the Northern Kingdom of Israel. He delivered this message and was largely ignored, then he was kicked out of the country by the king of Israel. He was sent to Israel to tell them to repent before the Lord destroyed them. Amos was sent as a warning, and a gift, but was met with disdain from God’s people.
So, what is the practical takeaway this morning from this passage of Scripture?
Key Point: “God’s people don’t need to fear His judgment because our hope is in the Lord.”
Points:
1. God will punish his people for their disobedience.
2. We must face God with Humility.
3. God will always preserve a remnant of his people
As Christians, we must be willing to accept correction. We must be willing to accept that we may be doing things that do not please God, and that Correction from God is something we should accept and welcome.
We can look at punishment and judgment without fear because we know two things. First, that God loves us, so His correction is for our own God. And second, that God is perfect, so his correction is perfect. If we remember these two things, then we can face hard times with humility and come out as better Christians.
So ask yourself these few questions as we go through these hard times:
1. Is God using this time as a time of correction in my life?
2. Is there something I need to change or give up to refocus on God?
3. Am I listening to correction?
4. Do I have peace in the Lord’s actions and plans?
5. What is the Lord trying to teach the church body during this time?
