Summer Basketball Camp
Daily, from 07/15/2024 to 07/19/2024, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
The league is co-ed and grades entering k-6th grade.
Practices will be on Thursday evenings starting August 8th and Games will be played Sunday afternoons starting August 18th. If we find our numbers are too large, we may have 4-6th grade practice on Tuesdays. Last game will be October 6th with an awards ceremony to held at a later date. No games the weekend of Labor Day.
All practices and games will be played at Butler Memorial Stadium in Butler Memorial Park.
Registration is $95 which will include a reversible jersey, flag belt, wrist band (for plays), end of season award and more! Shorts are an optional $14. Scholarships are available for families in need (just reach out to us for more details).
All teams will be practicing together to ensure the same level of instruction then towards the end of practice they will break off into their individual teams to review plays. Practices will run around 1 ½ hours and have a practice devotion.
Games will be Sunday afternoons...in a stadium...with an announcer... with music...with an electric crowd and may even be under the lights!!
A water bottle with your child's name on it, spikes (any type will do...football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse), maybe a mouthpiece (completely optional), willingness to try something new and lots of love.
Can I help? YES! We need coaches as well as other volunteers to help us out along the way. If you never coached football before, please don't be intimidated as we will be practicing together plus Upward gives you a lot of great resources to make sure you are successful. Did I mention that coaches get some cool swag including...HATS!! You can volunteer when you register your child or you can click on this link: https://registration.upward.org/UPW86365/volunteer
Is Flag Football "real" football? Absolutely! Flag is a great way to introduce your child to football in a safe environment. We will be teaching the same techniques of tackle football such as breaking down before making a tackle, pursuit, outside contain, holding a football, throwing, catching, plus a lot of the rules are similar to tackle. With more and more high school team adapting a spread offense, flag is a great way to get more reps passing the ball and defending against the pass. Also, flag football is a perfect stepping stone before your child is ready to play youth football through the BAMFL or your home league or junior high football through your school.
Can girls really play? It seems like women are breaking barriers every day in the sport of football. From being referees, coaches, administrators, and especially players, they are really shaping the future of the sport. Also, in my 6 years of coaching and running flag football leagues, the girls who participated not only competed but they excelled against the boys.
Will there be Cheerleaders? The BAMFL has great cheerleading and dance team programs where you might see some of our Upward Basketball Cheer Coaches. Who knows...you may see some cheer or dance squads at a few of our games.
